| Biography | Alejandra Calderon-Roa is the Executive Director of Homies Organizing the Mission to Empower Youth (HOMEY), a gang prevention and community-based organization in San Francisco. As an adolescent she was involved in a local gang, an experience that helped to inspire her work with at-risk youth experiencing similar life circumstances. She believes that youth join gangs in an effort to buffer the effects of poverty, trauma, community and family violence. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and recently received her Masters in Social Work from San Francisco State University. |
