Gisela Shanahan is the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Global Business for Denver International Airport (DEN).  In her role as the CFO, she directs the financial and strategic management of the nation’s largest and 5th busiest airport serving more than 64 million passengers annually.  The Airport generates more than $1 billion in annual revenue with a statewide economic impact of more than $26 billion annually.  Her role encompasses finance, accounting, budget, capital planning and funding, IT, revenue management and business development. She is the architect of the Airport’s capital plan designed to position DEN for the next 20 years.  The plan includes a major expansion, adding an additional 30% in gate capacity, an innovative and first of its kind public private partnership to transform the main terminal, and nonaeronautical development of Airport property as DEN continues expanding its Airport City concept.  


Gisela has more than 20 years experience creating financial solutions and designing scalable, flexible plans that focus on achieving goals balanced with strong risk mitigation controls.  

Prior to joining the airport, Gisela developed a new capital plan for Denver’s Wastewater and Stormwater Enterprise, involving more than 750 miles of storm drainage and 1,500 miles of sanitary sewer infrastructure.  She led the development and financing of a large economic development and revenue enhancement program that included a 200 acre aerospace business park and airline major maintenance base during her tenure as the Chief Financial and Business Development Officer at the Colorado Springs Airport.  


Gisela is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant and holds an MBA in Finance.  She currently serves on the 10th District Federal Reserve’s Economic Advisory Committee. She has held board positions that spanned a White House task force in Washington D.C., international non-profits, national sports organizations, the City and County of Denver's Employee Health and Benefits Committee and the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau.  She is a dedicated public servant logging thousands of hours as a volunteer in her community serving youth organizations, charitable foundations, animal welfare and military support groups.
